The Valley

Everyone has to live somewhere and it's generally agreed that most people would like to live in the Valley. They can't. It's the highest value real-estate onSlab, is eye-wateringly expensive to lease and impossible to buy.

The Valley was originally conceived as a 14Km diameter cylinder that would run the full width of Slab, with a day/night sunstrip in the forward bulkhead and local downs perpendicular to the surface. The sunstrip is gradually powered down every evening and eventually turned off to let the Moxie reservoir behind it provide simulated moonlight.

The Valley is home to almost all of Slab's successful talent, their agents, lawyers, accountants and managers and is where every spinresident secretly dreams of moving to after their genius had been recognised. The Valley is where normal people pretended to be wildly eccentric by spending fortunes on whimsical architectural experiments, interactive landscaped gardens and gaudy sound-sculptures while seriously stimmed-out people pretended to be normal by building faithful reproductions of ancient manor houses with tennis courts, swimming pools and gazebos.

The Valley also houses the headquarter estates and vineyards of every large corporation onSlab and quite a few of the wannabe large corporations who are obliged to pay triple the usual extortionate rent. It is also home to some remarkable foibles, such as the artificially deep lake and the wandering forest.

The Valley is situated in Big Yin which was constructed, and is owned by, Child NinetyNine Inc. This corporation is 180˚ phase-shifted for tax purposes, and is, therefore, permananently unavailable for comment.

The Spin hangs above every Valley resident's head, as a constant reminder of where their future usurpers lie.
